Tommy Lee On 'Rock Star' Winner Lukas Rossi: 'He's Sexy, And He Sings Like Hell'
Tommy Lee (MÖTLEY CRÜE), Jason Newsted (VOIVOD, ex-METALLICA), and Gilby Clarke (ex-GUNS N' ROSES) told Shelley Fralic of the CanWest News Service that they selected Canadian singer Lukas Rossi to front their new band — which is now going by the name ROCK STAR SUPERNOVA — because he looks the part, he acts the part, and he sings the part. He has, they say, the rock royal jelly.

Supernova the show is over, what now for Rossi?

For Lee, there was never any question that Rossi was the one. “I realized he was the guy for us the very first day we met him. The first time I saw him, I was, like, ‘That’s my boy,’” said Lee. “All my life, I’ve always wanted to be in a band with a singer like this. You can’t teach someone to be a rock star. The way he moves ... you either have that, or you don’t.”

Lukas With the Lid Off
Was it his growling vocals, his swaggering self-confidence, or his Goth hair and eye makeup? Maybe it was all of these that led veteran rockers Tommy Lee, Gilby Clarke, and Jason Newsted to choose Lukas Rossi to front their new band. The 29-year-old from Toronto advanced past fellow finalists Magni, Toby, and finally Dilana to claim the frontman gig during Wednesday's finale of Rock Star: Supernova. Next up for Lukas: recording the band's album, due in November, and headlining its North American tour in January and February. First, though, he phoned EW.com to talk about his victory, his style, and what viewers didn't see on the show.

48 Hours With "Rock Star: Supernova" Winner Lukas Rossi

Judging by his behavior at the show's wrap party later that night, it seems Lukas has taken to his new rock star role quite naturally. Flanked on all sides by L.A.'s dimmest and drunkest, Lukas handled the ladies like he'd been negotiating groupie advances forever. To say that he liked the attention would be a major understatement. Even growing up, Lukas tells us, he didn't have pictures of his favorite bands the Cult or Smashing Pumpkins on his bedroom wall. "I wanted to be the one on the poster!"

Lukas Rossi Revels in His New 'Rockstar' Role

Rossi says while he believed he could be the guy all along, his nerves caught up with him at the end. "That was probably the only time I felt nervous, when it came down to two of us."  So how did he celebrate? "I had a great time last night. I went to Geisha House and saw everybody from the show, friends and family. It was a really dope evening."

'Supernova' finds its singer: Lukas Rossi
The spiky-haired Canadian grabs a gig as frontman of the new group.  IN the end, goth as much as rock won out in the finale of "Rock Star: Supernova," as Lukas Rossi — the androgynous, spiky-haired Canadian wailer who favors charcoaled eyes, black nail polish and fingerless fishnet gloves — beat all comers.

Canada’s Rossi rocks
Toronto’s Lukas Rossi, he of the sneer, strut and white-streaked coif, rocked away the winner on last night’s season finale of Rock Star: Supernova. Rossi’s win makes him the second Canuck to claim the CBS reality show’s ultimate prize. On last year’s debut season of the show, Oakville’s J. D. Fortune was picked by the members of INXS to take the place of the late Michael Hutchence.

Toronto's Lukas Rossi Chosen As Singer Of TV's Rock Star Group
"If the band chose somebody besides myself because it would have made the band what they wanted for their vision, then I would step back and respect that. But, you know, I'm standing here now and obviously I was the right person for the job."

Former bandmate of Lukas Rossi cheers the Rock Star on at Toronto bar
Jeff Smith knows what it's like to share a stage with Canada's newest Rock Star, Lukas Rossi.  Smith, of Ajax, Ont., and a rowdy group of eight of Rossi's family members watched the show on a big screen at Toronto bar Clinton's. They erupted into frenzied applause when Rossi was announced as the winner, drowning out the earsplitting speakers they had just asked to have turned up.

Lukas Deemed Worthiest "Rock Star"
Lukas Rossi, he of the glittery eyelids and black nail polish (actually, that second part doesn't distinguish him that much), wowed his future band mates and judge Dave Navarro Tuesday night with his toughened-up version of Cold Play's "Fix You," and then again with a stripped-down, acoustic version of his own creation, the moody "Headspin."

Forget oil. Our big export is rock stars
LOS ANGELES — At 8:45 a.m. Wednesday, intense screams were already filling a CBS soundstage in downtown Los Angeles. Minutes before the taping of the show that would determine his future, Toronto's Lukas Rossi strolled out and shouted, “Yeeaaaah!” Dozens of fans shouted their approval back at him. And by 11:15 a.m., the race was over. After nearly three months of prowling the stage on the CBS reality show Rock Star: Supernova, Toronto's Lukas Rossi was handpicked by drummer Tommy Lee and guitarists Jason Newsted and Gilby Clarke to be their lead singer. He beat 15 contestants from around the world.

Quick Hits: Supernova

excerpt re: Lukas Rossi

Last night on Rock Star: Supernova, band members Tommy Lee, Jason Newsted and Gilby Clarke picked Toronto native Lukas Rossi as their lead singer. The spiky-haired, makeup wearing singer will get right into the studio with the band to record vocals for their first album, which is due November 21 via Epic Records. The only mystery now is what the band will be called, since yesterday a judge ordered the producers to come up with a different name for the group when he granted an injunction to a California band also named Supernova. "Lukas is the real deal," says Tommy Lee. "He proved that he's got the voice and swagger to front this band. He's gonna tear it up in the studio and then we're taking the show on the road." Rossi commented, "This is the gig of a lifetime. That I'll be singing in a band with Tommy, Gilby and Jason - guys that I've always respected - is just surreal. Can't wait to get started." The band will hit the road on New Years Eve in Las Vegas.
